I'm glad they popped the guy who used the bat. But the general point is: certain, people and the atmospheres they create seem to nurture rash behavior and violence out of proportion to that of the population as a whole. Kal's fraternity row, in my experience, was one of those places. It might be true for lots of schools and frats. I don't care. Never had guys using surgical tubing slingshots to launch beer bottles at me any other place in the world.
I don't think it's funny. I think it's endemic. Who is a victim, who is a perpetrator, who started what is a fluid concept. I don't think it's typical of all fraternity life everywhere, all the time, but I do know that for whatever reason (I'd put my money on alcohol, testosterone, and for the thugs, criminal intent) this kind of crap happens more on fraternity row... more than, say, walking your dog, at the bank, Whole Foods, walking across Golden Gate Bridge, REI Co-Op, and your car mechanic's shop.
