I've been going to Big Game since 1981 and the worst I've seen it was in the late 90s.  The successive losses, post game riots on the field, Low APR U players inciting their fans to do "something radical" and occasional early blowouts sending Low APR U. fans to their Frat parties early were a combustible mix.  Many of the worst Frat stories date from that period.

My elementary age kids certainly learned some new adjectives that could be put in front of Stanford and saw lots of imaginative uses for fruit and beer containers.

The atmosphere at Be.rkeley is MUCH calmer now.

I remember the late '90s.  My grandparents (classes of '41 and '42, Stanford) refused to travel to East Bay after about 1995.
