Women's rowing has a dark horse chance of winning. We'll see what happens at the Pac-12 championships next weekend when the women meet kal again. Will kal respond to the upset by reclaiming their higher ranking? Or will Stanford continue to find more speed? How will Stanford match up against the rest of the Pac-12? (Because Stanford does not see every Pac-12 team before the Pac-12 championships...) And the east coast is always fast. Brown and tOSU are officially ranked ahead of Stanford in the coaches poll.

There's a ranking system out there using ordinary least squares that also accounts for some rowing-specific conditions. It places Stanford's varsity boat 5th, 1.7sec behind kal, tOSU, UW, and USC. That doesn't say anything about the quality of the 2V8 or the V4 boats, and the team trophy goes to the overall scoring school, but it's an indicator.Â
