This graphic shows the number of national championships for Stanford, U,S,C, and UCLA over time. It was posted by a UCLA fan on the UCLA board. It was posted last summer, so it doesn't include the current academic year, but that doesn't really make a difference. You can see that Stanford was well behind U,S,C and UCLA in the late 1970s and early 1980s, then made up a lot of ground in the 1980s and 1990s. Stanford caught U,S,C and almost caught UCLA around 1999. But UCLA opened up some space around 2001 and has held its lead ever since. U,S,C has closed a little bit of ground on UCLA and Stanford over the last few years.
