I think I recall an instance of Stanford athletics having been named for allowing "improper benefits" (or something of that sort). Wasn't there some kind of controversy involving Tiger Woods when he was at Stanford? I think he and Tom Watson played at Silverado and Watson paid for lunch (!). Nothing materialized, or maybe I have a creative memory. But I seem to recall that the NCAA got involved briefly.
