Look, the difference between "Nerd Nation" -- or "Fighting Irish" or "Celtics" -- is pretty simple: the offended group deciding to assume the name as a point of pride. The name was picked by a racist and is being upheld by a white dude; I don't exactly know of a lot of Native Americans who have played, owned, or participated with the Washington team.
If you're in favor of the name "Redskins," ask yourself this: would you address a Native American by the term "Redskin"?
