Stuff like this is akin to throwing an empty coke can at a moving container ship.  Look,  they killed a kid and the news cameras all went and took artsy shots of candles lit for him in their famous Grotto.  The true believers, and they are legion,  have already bought the "bad fit" explanation and won't even pay attention to the taking-classes-but-not-admitted farce.  If the football program wants mid-year "admits"  because it is a useful recruiting tool [and it IS],  they will continue to have it.  ND will just take a existing academic official, print up an alternative business card identifying him as Dean of Exceptional Student Admissions and cruise on as if nothing happened.
