1. Based on the recommendations here, we went to see it tonight. Was glad we did.
2. This movie pushes the meme into new territory on time-travel/time-driven science fiction. It goes beyond the usual what-if-the-time-traveler meets his future self conundrum. Groundhog Day on meth is more like it. It really does hang together. They lay out the rules, then sticking to those rules drives the plot. I want to say "right up to the final scene"...which is just a little bit ambiguous, but it's not a big deal as long as they stifle the urge to make a sequel.
3. This is the first movie in a l-o-n-g, l-o-n-g time where it did not star Tom Cruise as "Tom Cruise" playing the movie character. His redemption isn't complete, but you get to see Tom Cruise playing his movie character without that other "Tom Cruise" persona as intermediary. If that makes any sense. But it works and I hope he can make more movies the same way.
4. Like all "big" movies it's pretty much an orgy of CGI, but so are most sci-fi movies these days. You just gotta roll with it.
5. Blade Runner is a good benchmark for sci-fi movies. Didn't hurt that it was based on a novel by one of the best sci-fi writers ever, but in BR's case, the movie might have been better than the book. It had a deeper aesthetic and blazed new ground in sci-fi cinema.  Edge of Tomorrow is neither of those. BUT...it IS a darned entertaining movie that has merits of its own. Like I said, glad we went and thanks to those people here whose movie credibility jumped with this one.
