Bond's wife actually WAS killed by Blofeld hours after their wedding in the final scene of the original Ian Flemming novel,  "On Her Magesty's Secret Service". 

The original Bond movies followed the novel plots fairly closely.  The later movies - not so much.

For three years my buddies and I made an annual pilgrimage to Grumman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood to see the latest Bond film.  You youngsters here won't understand but they were quite titillating at the time.  We would buy our tickets then stand around telling somewhat dirty jokes until they let us in.  All the way from Glendora, this was an adventure! To me and my buddies, Sean is James, James Bond.  And no female film character will ever supplant Pussy Galore in my adolescent mind.
