Old Daily article (at http://www.stanforddaily.com/2011/01/10/...d-for-nfl/) reported that our offer "came close" to the 49ers'; it probably just wasn't a 5-year deal like theirs.  I think there were alumni willing to step up and fork over to keep Harbaugh at least one more year, for Luck's sake.

Good Luck with that.  Harbaugh had a plan and a goal and Stanford was always a stepping stone.  I don't begrudge him at all.  He changed and set the tone and left us better than he found us, but his eye was always on the NFL and the Super Bowl.
