When the author criticizes Shaw's comments in part due to the fact that he makes a multimillion dollar salary, he fails to mention that Shaw himself played football for Stanford and was, therefore, one of the "exploited" athletes. Cannot his coaching salary be considered fruit of his opportunity as a Stanford football player? Considered thusly, his salary actually supports Shaw's position against paying student athletes.
