The kid knew the scholie was for one year (standard procedure for walk-on's). The screw-up was the bureaucratic maze that is Sproul Hall. No surprise there. However, as stated by ferrari, there is more to the story than appears on the surface.
Bottom line - you have to ask questions when things don't add up.
This situation reminded me of something that happened where I work (a large bureaucractic organization). An employee was mistakenly paid more than he should have received. Instead of bringing the mix-up to the attention of his boss, he pocketed the money. Sometime later, the error was discovered and he had to make arrangements to pay the entire overage back. Should we feel sorry for him?
Nope and I don't really feel sorry for Grisom either. He should have known better and he should have brought it to someone's attention.
