I agree that Yankey was not the puller that either DeCastro or Phllips were. On the other hand, in 2013 we did pull Yankey a lot and our running game overall was fairly successful.
In 2012, with Yankey at LT, we simply gave up trying to pull the guards. My memory is that we still ran a lot of man-blocking scheme with a fullback lead blocker but appeared to think that keeping the off-guard on the backside was better than trying to pull him when he doesn't get around and therefore blocks nobody.
