There may be a bias based upon being from a field that prefers mechanistic arguments. Medicine, on the other hand, I would assume skews toward statistical analysis as mechanistic arguments are often near-impossible.Â

I do as well. For thinking about a general approach, a statistical analysis should be appropriate. It just doesn't mean he was wrong in that particular moment (though I think he was).
