Apparently Jeremy Gunn spent time chatting with Antonio Conte (former Juventus, current Italy manager) a couple summers ago when Juve visited. Hopefully Gunn avoided picking up any tips from Klinsmann when he visited.

He's the US national team coach -- the team trained at Stanford before the 2014 World Cup. He is a dim, dim man.

Unfortunately the 59ers clawed back a goal. 2-1.
Amir Bashti is on to do interesting things. I suspect he'll fare well because the 59ers are not all that physical.

Anyone else think that there was no penalty for which Cal was given a penalty kick? The Cal player simply looked frustrated at missing the ball, absent any indignation that he had been fouled?
At this point irrelevant, but I still think it was a make-up call for what was a well-deserved penalty kick awarded to Stanford.

Stanford closes out the game, 2-1. A bit low-IQ in the final two minutes, forgoing opportunities to milk the clock (instead, trying not-that-likely passes aimed at scoring... fine ideas in an ordinary situation, not-so-great when already ahead and seeking to finish the game.)

Based just on what happened on-field, Stanford was only OK; perhaps even worse than the 59ers. But considering the long layoff and lack of Morris, the performance was pretty solid.
