Interesting to think about. Wayne Lyons wrote me last year to ask to consult with him on public speaking. I agreed but never heard back, and wonder what challenges he might have had, and if they resemble his former CB teammate.

Plus, president of his high school class, and top 1% in GPA. It's absurd that every expert prediction since the summer has been to TAMU. He's not the type who just goes to the closest possible school merely to avoid the inconvenience of leaving home. He might go to Austin or to the Midwest if he thinks that's the best opportunity, but my money would be on Stanford. Better odds that he gets elected to Congress someday than that he goes to TAMU. Â

He's not in my OVAL region, but if he were, and if I had the chance to talk with him, I'd make sure he knew where Stanford outshines Texas public universities.

I wonder if he felt that it might be awkward to do so once he decided to transfer to Michigan. I do wonder what the future will hold for him.

Yes, I later decided that Wayne had decided to move on. He had been very gracious, so it seemed unlike him to go silent. But I think he knew I was active on boards like this one, and not willing to take away a fellow alums time who was not longer going to be a classic, fellow alum.

Wayne is as much of a Stanford alum as any other dropout luminary is (Brin/Page/Woods/Holmes--shenanigans notwithstanding). He did what he had to do to give himself a shot at the NFL, and as long as he holds Stanford dear, that's good enough for me. (And he'd better root for Stanford over Michigan if the two should ever conflict.)
