LMU has taken the first two sets 28-26, 25-16.  Stanford is hitting .221 to LMU's .294.  The second set was kind of a disaster after a tied 9-9 score, after which LMU pulled away and never looked back.

Stanford leads 9-7 in the elimination set.  Lose and it's an NCAA 2nd round tourney loss, which I'm still not really used to hearing about.

Let's hand it to LMU.  They played a good game.  Good digs.  Good attacks very close to the net.

Our seniors have been among the best while here at Stanford, but this wasn't one of their good games.  Balls fell amongst the team, setter and attacker seemed out of sync, attacks went wide, serves went into the net.

I just wonder what would have happened if we had won just one of the several set points in the first set.  I thought it would maybe tone down LMU.  Instead, Stanford didn't do very well in the next set.  Down two sets, they came out well in the 3rd set, but eventually stalled at 20-20.  Facing match point, we recovered from a ball from the other side of the net, for a bright spot. But it was over too soon.

Hopefully Saturday will be more of a joyous day.  Hoping for victories from our futbol and football teams.

John Dunning continues to bring in "super freshman" class and excellent players but no championship.  Last  title was in 2004.  Next year should be a better team with  Inky's return and Ivana's return to her natural position.  Big question is the setter.  However with talented hitters available, setter's job will a little easier.

Next year's team will one of the favorites to win the title.  Hopefully the WVB drought will end next year.
