Chip Kelly now available

If USC loses against Wisconsin, I wonder how many Trojans will grumble that they should have waited before handing the keys to Helton.

Frankly I'm not surprised. Chip Kelly's no huddle worked in college because the skill and speed on defense is so uneven; there's always a weakness to exploit (except vs Stanford of course). But in the NFL, defenses are so much better, so you can't just "out-athleticism" them.
I'm sure Coach Kelly will land a nice college job. Maybe it was he who wanted out early so he could hobnob with conference bigwigs at the top bowl games and get a jump on the many openings at top programs. Fortunately there aren't any in the Pac-12...

It's strange to argue Chip Kelly was somehow found out or that his schemes were inadequate. The problem was on Philadelphia's defense, not offense, and he somehow coaxed solid offenses out of teams with Nick Foles and Sam Bradford. And went 10-6 in each of his two seasons.
I see no reason to deviate from my view of "Chip Kelly, Great Coach." What we've learned is that Kelly makes a crummy GM.

ESPN reporting that Eagles owner Lurie wanted to strip Kelly of personnel responsibility but Kelly wouldn't agree to that.

Does anyone else think it wouldn't be beyond Pat Haden and his so-called school to fire their new coach and hire Kelly?

My guess is he has a new job by Jan 10. There will be many openings on Jan 4 likely including Dallas, Indy, NY Giants, and Miami. Probably close to a half-dozen others too. Any coach who doesn't make the playoffs and doesn't have more wins than he had last year is likely to be out of job.

I think Kelly to the Titans just makes too much sense.
Chip Kelly's press conference after Oregon lost to Stanford where he rattles off, "Gardner is a good football player, Stevens is a good football player, Shayne Skov is a good football player, Trent Murphy is a good football player, Chase Thomas is a good football player..." really impressed me. I was happy to see Kelly leave Oregon, bummed that he's gone from the pros, and mighty happy that USC already hired somebody else.

nertz--why won't the board software embed this link? Does it have anything to do with the time stamp that I inserted? Well waddya know, yes it does. When you insert a time stamp, then the board software does not embed the link. Administrators, is there anything that can be done to adjust for that?
Anyway, start watching at 0:35 to see what I'm talking about.

Also, according to this story, a major part of the problem was that Kelly would just release players that gave him difficulties. I applaud that approach cuz coaching cancers sucks. It's a shame that maybe in the pros, you can't quite operate that way.

Agreed. He might look good in red and gold, thinks one young knuckleheaded NFL owner...
Oh and Mike Holmgren says he wants the job. Yay.

Yeah, it's hasty, but his moves were so boneheaded that it's not totally unfair.
