I thought ESPN cut way from the band so what abruptly, but in fairness they did it spend much time on the Iowa band either. Or maybe that warm not paying attention...

They did show way too much of the Hawkeye band and they did cut our band short. BUT, it was incomprehensible what our band was trying to do. It looked like a giant hat formation on TV. They did not close in on the cow, so it was hard to figure out the point.
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.

I couldn't figure out the band show in person, to be honest, and on TV later (my favorite granddaughter had taped it because we forgot to) it was incomprehensible noise from the incomparables. ESPN did pull away, first to a the only ugly aerial view possible of the Rose Bowl and environs then into the sun over the San Gabriel's. Very poorly planned and obviously spontaneous shots. It was fun to here Mussburger say first, "Iowa MUST respond," then "Iowa MUST GET A STOP," then, "Iowas MUST respond," then, "this is over."

Now at home I have enjoyed watching the game 2 times now, so I can comment on the LSJUMB coverage
When ESPN went to highlight LSJUMB on the field the direct line to the mic was down, so you could only hear a faint over air echo of the reading of the script. With the audio failing, ESPN seemed to transition to a wider blimp shot of the stadium and then moments later left the scene. That's par for the course though. The days of getting to see a full halftime show by the college bands on TV are long, long gone, even for bowl games.
In the stadium the audio was awful. FWIW - I always chuckle when folks on this board complain about Stanford Stadium's audio because the only way to make audio really great is to BLAST it at annoying levels (ie. LA Coliseum or Husky Stadium).  However, the LSJUMB themes were easy enough to understand for those in the stands. I think generally, the Iowa fans were set to boo as they likely knew LSJUMB's shows would not put Iowa in a favorable light.
In the end, Iowa has not won the Rose Bowl since 1959. That was a long time ago. Can you imagine how awful it must be for them to watch other conference teams win with some level of consistency?Â

He also said something to the effect that Iowans spent a lot of money to get here and didn't want the game to be over too soon so gave Stanford some incentive to stay in the game. Personally I thought he was pretty funny.

You really have to see the halftime show coverage to get it. The music was incomprehensible, but the formation was clearly a guy in a cowboy hat, and it looked like he went from smiling to frowning. But like I said there was essentially no audio, and after it became clear that the formations aren't very interesting the camera zoomed out continuously but slowly, then panned over to a view of the sun over the mountains, the sun washed everything out, then they cut to commercial. All without a single word from anyone. It was pretty special and both my wife and I were laughing fairly hard at it.
I'm bummed I couldn't attend this one personally, it sure would've been fun to see... (Also, my feed was a few seconds behind the live broadcast. Right before the first play I got a text from my brother saying "Terrible start". Oh no! Fortunately for me he's a sarcastic one.)

Oh, a note about the Cardboard meet up. I truly regret not driving across town to meet those who were there, but I was lucky enough to meet SUBuddha at the alumni tailgate. (And by the way, the tailgate was worth every cent of the $75.00 I paid; I ran into four different people from my freshman dorm, a couple that I hadn't seen in twenty years. Also, I ran across Spiny Norman, whom I had met at a previous Rose Bowl (or UCLA) tailgate.)
Anyway, it was great meeting Buddha and we talked about what a great thing this Board is, and how odd/nerdy/cool it is to feel connected to people whom we've never met face to face. For next year's Rose Bowl, I'll make it to the meetup!
