Wow. Just really great. Kudos to the team once again. And thanks to all on Cardboard for contributing to the fun.

I did not expect this. Happy to be so wrong. Congratulations to the team!
Four of Stanford's opponents are in the top 25. The two we beat are ranked higher than the two we lost to. The four teams are ranked in inverse order of when they played Stanford and in inverse order of their margin against Stanford. So much for transitivity.

#3 Stanford 1360pts
#4 tOSU 1342pts
It wouldn't have taken many (more) biased voters to flip those around. Glad they got it right, just like the Player of the Year!

Terrific, and well deserved! Unfortunately, it looks like for Directors Cup points purposes, the USA Today Coaches Poll governs, so the skeptic in me thinks we'll still finished fourth behind tOSU. It's only a difference of a few points, but still annoying.
Perhaps more consequentially, the same is true for the Capital One Cup, which we currently lead thanks to Mens Soccer. So fingers crossed the Coaches know what's up.

Fun fact: this is the fourth time in 6 years than Stanford final ranking is <= the number of losses Cal had on the year.

I may have to steal this and use this in a tweet. Is that ok with you?

Seems fair to say the team consistently got better over the year. Too bad the season had to end :)Â Congrats to the whole team!

From not being rated at one point to finishing ranked 3rd (by a very small margin). An incredible team!

I think everyone should steal and tweet this. After all, what if there are some people out there who don't know this? It's our duty.

Do people really get bent out of shape on where their team is in the final poll? I mean, it's nice when your team has a historically high ranking, but I only truly care about the polls the last few weeks of the season that will determine an invitation to the CFP. Once your team's out of it, the rest is academic. On the margins, it's probably nice for the program to be able to say things like "top 5 ranking X of the last Y years at season end", but as a fan this doesn't mean much.
Although the fun fact about Ca'l's losses and our ranking is pretty fun.

I think a top three finish means recognition for a job well done to the team and provides proof to potential recruits that Stanford can play at a very high level.
