Really happy for Crower.  I love his game and was bummed I didn't get to see him play more at QB. 

After Harbaugh took the 49ers HC position, there was some brief paranoid media speculation that all the recruits would decommit.  He was the first to come forward and say he didn't think anybody would.

Hard to believe that the baseball coaching staff didn't give him a ring when we suffered injuries to the pitching lineup :(

My guess and only that is he was working with our pitching coach thus here.  But to add Crower we had to cut a player per the newish rules.  So depends on the timing but doubt he was throwing 95 in February.

I would have thought he had to remain a counter for football given the dual-sport hierarchy, but I don't know what happens once you completely abandon one of the sports.

Baseball is allowed only 35 on their roster once opening day begins.    Stanford has to cut about 5 each year.  They are allowed to practice but can't play during the season.  So say Crower is working out after Feb 20 or so and they like him but they have to then cut a player to add him. After that player had made the team.  Of course maybe that's not possible given we couldn't add anyone with the injuries last year. Some had operations like Quatrill

Thanks. Now that you remind me, I did hear something about the 35 man roster.

A little investigation shows that anyone receiving any scholarship money must be counted as part of the 35 man roster. Waivers are nominally possible, but my understanding is that those typically are only granted for a player missing an entire season due to injury - which wouldn't quite describe Quantrill last year.

I didn't see anything that made it clear if it is possible to cut one walk-on from the roster for another midseason - though some bits I read sounded like a "no".
