You just described
Russell Turner.Â
Young, hungry, talented, competitive, wins everywhere he has been, excellent pedigree and coaching tree (Odom, Montgomery, Don Nelson), understands and loves Stanford, accustomed to high academic admissions standards (Stanford, UCI), intelligent (Phi Beta Kappa, Academic All American), NBA experience and connections, high level recruiter, personable/ magnanimous, good guy ( and a guy's guy), driven with a tough minded work ethic and integrity, family man (hey, he recruited a doctor!), roots in NorCal, has strong "presence" (Big West Coach of the Year, District 9 Coach of the Year, OC Top 100 Influential people), cares deeply about his players and vice versa etc. etc. [ In case you are wondering: sources, Wikipedia + several who have followed his career hoping he'd return, including former players and myself.]
He's the "get", the diamond waiting to shine.
Sad that people need to throw shadow for successful recruiting and competitive demeanor that cleary inspires and leads to rapid success...just opinions of people who favor other candidates and aren't informed about Turner. I guess it's political season and that's how people campaign: knock one down to raise another. Isn't Stanford primed for someone with some intensity and drive who also checks every other box on the planet?
Russ Turner is the man. Stanford needs someone like him.
