Incredibly, Stanford might not have seen the end of the Texas pipeline: Barry Browning had a good freshman season at corner and Cameron Fleming got a lot of hype as an up-and-coming tackle during his redshirt season.

Also: kind of funny that one of Brown\'s corrective actions was to hire Vinny Cerrato as an outside observer. Brown does realize that Cerrato was the totally incompetent stooge for the totally incompetent Daniel Snyder in Washington, right?

Quizz wasn\'t recruited because he was 5\'8" or 5\'9".  That was Texas\'s loss for sure.

It\'ll be interesting to see if Texas recovers this season.  Recovery isn\'t guaranteed, not with a malaise as such described in the article infiltrating both players and coaches.

So maybe when Texas cited television revenue when they passed on joining the PAC-12 (or would it have been PAC-16?), they might\'ve actually been worried about losing more in-state talent to the rest of the conference. Hmm.

A new neighbor moved in this past weekend, my younger kids immediately made friends and I ended up chaperoning a trip to the local park for the kids while the parents unpacked.

Then I noticed the 9 yr old was wearing a gawdawful orange UT shirt.   It turns out they are UT season ticketholders and will maintain their tix while in California (working for Google).

The son explained that last year wasn\'t so fun because of all the booing - particularly at the last game he went too.  I assumed they were booing the opposing team but he corrected me to say they were booing the Longhorns!   Must have been the A&M game but it\'s gone pretty far when the fans are booing at home games in Texas.   Showers of malformed frogs and plagues of locusts can\'t be far off.

Nice folks by the way, both are UT alums and have followed some Stanford football.   Turns out they were engaged in SF after they flew out to watch the UT/Stanford game in 2000.   There was some joking about nearly returning the ring and trying for a more auspicious start after unranked Stanford beat #6 Texas 27-24 that afternoon.  

I\'ll agree to not bring up UCLA in 2010 if they agree to pretend that Stanford football history went straight from Willingham to Harbaugh with nothing of interest in between.

The A&M game was winnable (I didn\'t hear boos, but I was in the south end zone, and it\'s a big stadium)...I bet the Iowa State game saw a lot of boos though, as perhaps the UCLA game did.

Stanford should be a much more pleasant team to root for--tell \'em it\'s never too early to set their son\'s college sights on the best university in the land...

As someone who went to Stanford and UT for grad school, of course Stanford is more pleasant to root for.  The expectations aren\'t in the same galaxy.

I\'d put the drunken intensity of a UT game in Austin (or the Rose Bowl, or in Dallas) up against just about anything.

California schools have always been attractive to Texas recruits.  I think Texas would have been a big beneficiary of getting regular exposure in Southern Cal.
