ICYMI (like me), here's an article I enjoyed from Daily writer Olivia Hummer on non-recruited walk-on Treyvion Foster. Twitter says he's gotten just a little bit of playing time this year, which is a big accomplishment, obviously.

I can't remember where I read it, but they said that all 4th years get honored whether they've got another year of eligibility or not. I think it was a story in the Chronicle.

My recollection is that Shaw's policy is "If you want to walk, walk. It's not a problem if you walk twice." So we'll probably see a decent number of those RS Juniors walk.

Also, maybe this is weird, but of the 5th years I'm easily going to miss Ukropina the most. Anyone else get oddly attached to our kickers?

That list is amazing to look at to see how sparse the 4th and 5th year list is especially the 4th year list. Not a lot of starters and not a lot of stars.  Will Ukropina and Caspers be the only two in the running for All Conference honors?  The NFL talent base of this team is in the junior and sophomore classes (CMac, Thomas, Love, Meeks, Holder, Reid, Irwin, Schultz) and hopefully in the frosh class that we haven't seen much of yet.  Even if we lose CMac and Thomas, this team should lose the least amount of talent to the NFL than any of our teams in recent memory.

When you think about the number of big games that have been won and lost by kickers...no, I don't think it's weird at all.

So maybe this is an OK place to give a shout-out to a couple of players I feel really good about--not that there aren't a lot more.

Conrad Ukropina is, I think, one of the best kickers in college football. What was he last year? 18/20? This year "only" 16/20, but three hit the (left) upright. Of course, those don't count, but gee whiz…..And his attempts are often from distances other teams don't even think of trying. How many extra points in a row? 10x? Great job, Conrad.

I have such positive feelings about Dallas Lloyd. He came as a highly touted quarterback, IIRC, and did not make it as QB. Then he turns around and becomes an excellent (star??) safety. Every time I see him with an interception or one of those devastating hits, I just feel good for him and so admire his perseverance to switch positions and work hard enough to excel. He has every reason to feel proud of his football career, and I am proud that he is a Stanford student-athlete.

In WBB they always honor all seniors including those who came back, like Ruef or Gold-Onwude, for a fifth year.  So some wind up with two senior days.  I wonder what they are going to do about Lili and Kailee at the end of this year, though.  Does football have any players who dropped off the team before becoming seniors?

My impression has been that Senior Day celebrates those who've persevered through their senior year (or a 5th year). So certainly no juniors who plan to declare for the draft and not come back, and surely no seniors who quit the team before the end of their senior year.

I imagine a senior who had to take a medical retirement but was still involved with the team might participate. Did that happen in WBB with Toni Kokenis? I can't remember.
