I'm sorry, but if a receiver gets open on play action 50 yards down field and drops the ball, the defense is not going to say "don't worry about that...we'll give it to you."  It just doesn't work that way.  The defense will adjust because eventually the offense will hit one.

Perhaps, but more probably they will say "I don't think that wide receiver can beat us. He may hit one, but he is too unreliable to kill us. OTOH, Love WILL kill us if we don't stop him. Put 8 in the box". So it is a matter of risk/reward. The receiver has to be "good enough" to actually require a response.  Sometimes, you just take your lumps and rely on poor college execution/individual limitations to save you. You pretty much know who can't catch the ball.

To beat the best front 7s on the schedule (USuC, UW) we must pass. 
The advantage at WR is they can impact sooner:  OSB, Wedington, Stuart.
Stuart and Speights were studs in Spring game. 
Threat of ISB deep opens holes for excellent TEs underneath.
JJAW could be a deep threat like Cajuste, YAC.  Tougher to bring down.
Love is a deep threat with a flat toss at LOS.
I expect Shaw to use outside speedsters as decoys for short stuff with ball contol as the goal. 
Unlike  Chip Kelly, Shaw wants to score in 8mins, 12 plays, not in 2mins. 

Clemson beat the best Defense in USA (Tide) with a Voldemort dual threat QB, like Mariota, a decent RB, and four WRs with great hands running well designed combo routes. And a supurb OLine (thats all !).  They mostly threw underneath.

I like the way you think, but I imagine Shaw will use WRs as window dressing for a lot of ground and pound, as has been the case in recent years.  I'm not sure he trusts his QBs' ability to deliver accurate and safe throws to the WRs at every branch of the route tree, and we all know that Shaw's aversion to risk will lead him to establish the ground game early and often...and often...and often...

So if we want to see WRs on full display, we should hope the run-blocking is good enough to let Shaw handle the risk of throwing  ;D
