I think Bloomgren is a talented guy but it is a real stretch for anyone to coach the OL, take recruiting responsibility and be the OC during the season.  My ONLY complaint during the Shaw era has revolved around game planning and play calling in SOME games and during SOME key situations.  I wish we had a full time OC who was responsible for nothing else during the actual season.  I would have given much to have hired Lincoln Riley or someone like him and there are very few in that category.

I agree our personnel talent has been consistently the best we have ever had the past 7 years although there were a few years (1991-1992), (1971-1972) and maybe 1999 when it was quite good.

I don't think there are any programs that have a full time OC, although coaching quarterbacks or receivers is more common than coaching the offensive line. Of course Lincoln Riley was excellent at Oklahoma but he was not a full time OC there.

Saw that too CS!  As for "Fozzy" well that's a bare reference so I'll go with "FosterS - that's Australian for beer, mate!"  I hope they both come in and make everyone better on offense as well as defense.  They are going to push both squads and hopefully our competition as well.

I'm hoping that Ron Gould will have a significant impact in coaching up the RBs. He has a impressive track record in developing running backs, and he may be a better coach than Lance Taylor whom he replaced. He played in a big time state in the top 6A division, is in the top 5 all time rushing there, was a 4 year starter, is used to playing on the big stage in big games and being successful.  He is very quick to the hole, has a low center of gravity, can accelerate in the open field and has a nose for the end zone.  The return of Marx and the addition of Sarell and Little along with last years starters on the OL are a great sign for rushing success this year.  Much depends on having an accurate QB who can throw with accuracy downfield to an extremely talented group of receivers including St. Brown to keep the box from being stacked.

SC hasn't played well and beaten Stanford since 2008. Their two victories included a 20-17 win in which they had a net rushing total of 16 yards and a 13-10 win in which we made a season's worth of mistakes in one game. I think it is why I have stopped getting nervous when the off-season hype builds for them.

You and me both.  I'm about 3 hrs away by car (as are a couple other less-active Cardboarders).  There's at least one poster here local to Houston, and BigEasyCard is (naturally), a hop and skip away in NOLA.  Stanford should absolutely recruit Texas and show off in this state.  Hard enough to deal with the $EC zealots after A&M bailed out of the Big 12...

I haven't seen tape on Speights, but I'd temper my expectations based on the history you gave above.  McAllen-Memorial never made it past the second round of HS playoffs iirc, and the general knock against the south Texas region is that programs there just haven't been as competitive in-state.  Speights is overflowing with potential, but past performance is no indicator of future performance.  That could be a really good thing in Trevor's case--he could blow us all away as a backup or co-starter with Love.  With Ron Gould as his coach and Turley as his trainer, I'm bullish on Speights for unsubstantiated reasons :)

True, if you consider the defense to be legitimate at that time ;)  I mean, I've seen a lot of concern about the front seven here...  Every phase of the game is a work in progress until proven otherwise (usually against stiff competition).

Well...sometimes when you have too many options, you have no good options.  I hope Shaw and co. find the best options (highest likelihood of creating mismatches/getting open) and get the offense to execute.  Power Left and Power Right sound good to start ;)  Then maybe Spider 3 Y Banana.

Schultz starts, but Kaden Smith (from TX) last year and Colby Parkinson in 2017 (from CA) were each #1 TE in USA.
These guys had to be triple teamed on the take down. And both mastered the 30 yard fade toss. 
On blocking (essential for Shaw) both of these guys leave a large divot with the opposing LB in it.
The highlight films look like a visit with the pygmies.  All kinds of combos are possible. 
Either one can take the Banana route to the House.  Out of a slot, you can't cover them.
