W-T-H, Pollack is taking a shot by betting on a solid Coaching staff that since 2009 has PROVEN that it can reload.
All the pyscho-phant pundits want Meyer vs Saban in the FINALE rather than the Semi. The hype would be brobdingnagian.
So, pick OKLA to pull the upset in Columbus, and Stanford slides in with a favorable schedule.Â
Add PNST who showed they could knock off OHST last year, and put on a helluva show in a shootout Rose Bowl.Â
With our home slate and boffo Strength-of-schedule, STAN can drive itself to the Playoff Party.
If we win, we're in, because of the slate. Maybe a dozen other teams can say that and have the horses to do it.
Look, with the Power Confs and early monster matchups, we essentially already have an 8-team Playoff.Â
Here are the "PLAY-IN" games -- winners get inside track to a Playoff slot (using SI rankings):
Sept 2:Â #1 BAMA vs #2 FLST @ATL stadium -- This is an early Championship game with a LOT of 5* HS talent.
Sept 9: #6 OKLA @ #3 OHST -- Mayfield vs Barrett in a QB duel for the Hizeman. Riley as OC moved up for OKLA.
Sept 9:Â #15 STAN @ #5 U$C -- Darnold (First round NFL next year) gunning it against our #1 DBs in Pac12.
Sept. 23:Â #7 CLEM @ #14 LOUV -- What can Lamar Jackson do, coming back as a stiff-arming trophy winner?
Nov 10: #9 WASH @ #15 STAN -- If both teams are undefeated (or we are 8-1), then this is for Pac12 North.
Nov 25:Â Â NDAM @ STAN -- In 2015, the late FG Nuke by Uke killed Domer hopes for a Playoff spot.Â
Some of the other Conf champ games may not have as much sway as the Pac12 champ game.
So, Final Four pickings might actually be narrow given the Oligopoly in College Football:Â
1) BAMA vs FLST winner, if they only stumble once til Dec. after the Opener.Â
2) OHST vs OKLA winner [Imagine Buckeyes losing to Sooners, and then rolling through the B1G]
3) Pac12 champ (with just one loss):Â STAN over U$CÂ ...Note:Â the arid South Div has NEVER won the Pac12.Â
4) MICH or PNST, if B1G champ? Yes. Brides-maid: CLEM vs LOUV winner, if undefeated?
I don't see Texas as proven yet for a dark horse. #8 NitLions with QB McSorley and RB Barkley look potent.
Just love slamming those over-hyped beach body schools.
If you heard Cal Sucks, you'd be right.
