First, a healthy Trent Irwin gives us that possession type receiver with great hands who always seems to find the seam. If the QB is accurate, he should be gold when trying to move the chains in the 8-12 yard range.
Having hybrid tight ends of which we may see two on the field at the same time gives our QB more targets that need defending by linebackers. Their height and hands and especially speed (Parkinson more than the others) can really open up the attack. They certainly complement Irwin and can force safeties to play the run game honestly up the middle of the field.
The other WR needs to be a deep threat on occasion. I have been very excited about the development of AW and his ability to make the big catch up in the air in clutch situations. His loss may be temporary but it is a big loss.Â
The biggest difference in my mind is the development of two other WR`s who can stretch the field in Stewart and St. Brown. That both are limited or not playing on Sunday in Sydney along with the absence of AW is of major concern. Along with AW and the TE`s, we have a very tall group of receivers.
While Tyler is unbelievably athletic, he has yet to prove he can separate and that he has great hands. He certainly will be a handful to bring down and corral in the open field but he first must have the ball delivered to him. This weekend is a meaningful and unique opportunity for him given the injuries. I hope he picks up the slack for the big wideouts.
In summary, I think we have the talent to really wreak havoc on pass defenses this year given adequate drop back time and an accurate QB but I am nervous about this weekend. Possibly it will be the right time to open up our tight end centric pass offense.
