ESPN posted an amazing stat: over the last 10 seasons, 7 players have four 70+ yard runs in the same season, Khalil Tate has done it in the span of the last four games.

Tate is the type of QB who can beat WSU. Chryst is not that kind of QB, Costello is much closer.

Playing Chryst against WSU not only makes a loss more likely but it also risks alienating portions of the team and large swaths of the fan base.

See, here's the thing, Chryst manifestly is the type of QB that can beat WSU. If he plays as well against them as he did against Oregon and Utah we'd definitely have a chance. He's just also the type of QB that can lose to Oregon State.
Costello is probably a QB that can beat WSU. He's probably not a QB that can lose to Oregon state. We just haven't seen enough of him to know.

Rich Rod may have a somewhat sordid past but he's winning, has a sense of humor, is not stone slab on the sidelines and seems to have a personality unlike a couple of blank walls that I won't mention.

Still, the traits he shows against bad teams could show up against good ones. He had a decent game against Utah, for example (I know they're not world-beaters but they're not a bad defense).
As I said, were I a betting man, would I bet on him having a good game against WSU? No. But it's within the realm of possibility!
