Would this perhaps be the big news?  Seems to be a big change from earlier in the season when Chryst was always the starter in Shaw's mind, other than due to injury.  If they are in "competition mode", it sounds like Chryst has lost his hold on the starter spot?

After that dog feces game Chyrst played, I would be shocked if they were not in competition mode.  I'm still recovering from the shock that Costello did not replace Chryst in that game.  We really should have lost that game and stuck a fork in our season.  It never should have gone down that way, IMO.  But, what do I know?

Yeah, maybe, I dunno. I was definitely expecting something that required less Kremlinology to parse.

Bloomgren apparently said post-practice last night that they need a QB who can hit open players...which doesn't sound like Chryst, although I've been astounded by the coaching staff's public descriptions of Chryst before, so who knows.

Didn't Costello hit open receivers against UCLA and ASU? Has Costello (in the roughly 9 quarters that he's played) thrown an interception yet?

Purely in the spirit of reminding folks of the information on the other side of perception I would point out the pass that Costello made to Dalton Schultz in the endzone in the Oregon game.  Schultz was completely uncovered in the endzone and Costello threw the 10-yard pass horribly behind him into the ground.  Only a miracle play by Schultz to get his hand under the ball before it hit the ground enabled the pass to be completed.  Costello has shown that he, too, is capable of throwing the ball into the ground.
