Defensively, Berkeley is closer in style to WSU than UW. They are not as fast as WSU. And they are more physical than under Dykes (that is not saying much) but they rely more on speed and games. Stunts, blitzes. They will throw a lot of looks at Costello. I suspect there will be some negative plays. But the opportunity for big plays will be there.
They are opportunistic defensively. They have been hurt at times by good running teams. But they are much better against the run then in prior years.
Offensively they have gotten better running the ball as the season progressed. Laird is a good back. North south runner. Gets extra yards. And he is a part of their passing game. If Im to compare him to a recent Stanford back Id say Stepfan Taylor. Hes not as good, but like Taylor well rounded and solid.
In short yardage look for Malik McMorris. 511 and a biscuit under 300. He can move for a big man. They like to slip him out into the flat as a receiver. Its worked well.
The passing game is more vertical than under Dykes. Bowers can move a bit. Hes inconsistent. But he has made some big plays and some big time throws.
Obviously they will be sky high. But that rubs off after a few as the game settles in
Key to me- Stanford cannot let Berkeley control the LOS and grind out long sustained drives. And, of course, turnovers.
One last thing -Anderson is a good kicker with a big leg. And hes hit clutch kicks.
