Some Stanford coaches may have achieved more success in jobs outside of Stanford (Bill Walsh), and perhaps Harbaugh would have achieved comparable success at Stanford had he stayed, but a win against Cal that could potentially clinch a 4th Pac-12 North title in 7 years, and provide Stanford with an opportunity to win a 4th Pac-12 title in 7 years, having to compete against the likes of Oregon, UW, and SC over the years, would solidify what has been obvious to me for years: that David Shaw is the greatest coach in program history in terms of Stanford-specific accomplishments.
