As for Stanford not fouling at end of 1OT when up three, that was offset by UCLA making the same mistake at the end of regulation.

FT shooting spotty for both teams.

Refs WAY too whistle happy.

Very good Bruin turnout at Maples.

Place was most energized I've seen it a men's game this year.

Want to believe this bodes well for rest of season, but let's just see how team resets/refocuses for SC on Sunday.

Davis played GREAT for Stanford; Okpala is going to be a stud; and I like Da Silva, too.  Seems like Haase is already playing for the future by giving these three guys a TON of PT.  And with PT comes confidence, and with confidence better on court play.  So, I expect these guys to get better.  Sucks for, most notably, Cartwright - but these things happen.

P.S.  Once again, there were numerous instances where Stanford attacked UCLA with set plays executed beautifully - something I don't recall seeing much of under Dawkins.  I realize the team's record under Haase is bad, but I still think this guy is a better hoops coach.  Time will tell, of course.

Nice to see the young players come through for the win.  Although the whistle happy refs played a role, I feel like our Senior leadership hasn't really been getting the job done and they can't all foul out of the game.  This was an important step for our young players and for this team.  After the collapse against Cal on Saturday, I had no idea where the leadership was going to come from on the team; this was desperately needed. 
I thought UCLA fell into to a pattern of watching and waiting for Holiday to do everything on offense.  We had some good defensive stops and they didn't have any answers late in the second overtime.  Other than the free throws, I think this could help the team keep their hopes up and find their way to some more conference wins.

Cartwright has been playable in the past, but he was bad in the part of the Cal game I saw. Dribbled aimlessly a lot, and that's when Cal started to close the gap. I am probably being too harsh...

I was at Maples tonight hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

They started the 2nd half strong and increased their lead after 2 quick fouls put Reid on the bench. Frankly, I thought it was game over, but we made a comeback of exceedingly large proportions. I like how Okpala, Davis, and DaSilva all play. It will be exciting to watch them grow.

I am baffled why Cartwright didn't play. At this point, White appears to me more of a liability than Cartwright, and Cartwright at least has shown he can shoot from 3. I saw UCLA try to isolate him defensively and have their guards break him down, which they did successfully until once late in the second OT. I have the sense that Cartwright knew he wasn't playing tonight. He never took his warmup off.

I was excited for the victory but jury's still out on this team until they can deliver on the mental toughness side night in and night out - a big challenge for a young team but we do have strong veteran leadership with Travis, Humphrey, and Pickens.

Unfortunately I think the terrible pre-season record is going to prevent them from getting into the big dance. They'd need to win at least 12 conference games and make the conference semis and I don't see that happening. But if they could just finish with a .500 or better overall record and an NIT bid I'd consider that a success from this point forward.

Is it too soon to call these guys the Fab Three?  I watched a few games at the beginning of the season and then missed a bunch in December.  The improvement of Davis in just a month is phenomenal.  He seems under control and had several excellent drives.  Yeah, there were some turnovers, but that's going to happen with true freshmen.  Okpala needs to work on his shot selection, but the raw talent is obvious.  And Da Silva is the most seasoned of the three, probably from his playing on the international circuit.  It's going to be really exciting to see these what these three can do over the next few years.
