Keep in mind, Duggar’s .261 average came on 54 AB’s (13 games).  He played little at the AAA level due to an injury.  While I do not see him making a significant contribution in 2018, I do believe he will be a key player in the Giants future.  His defense and ability to make contact at the plate are a perfect match for ATT Park.

I wonder if Kelby Tomlinson could play in the outfield.  He's career .282 hitter with a .350 OBP (.370 at AT&T) and a .701 OPS.  Has some speed, would average 15 steals and 5 caught stealing over 162 games.  Better hitter at night, doesn't do well against power pitchers, does best batting leadoff and 8th in the order.  Career .328 pinch hitter. 

Remember Eduardo Nunez?  He batted .308/.334.417/.751 for the Giants before being traded last year (and ending up batting .313 overall).  He played LF and RF for the Giants last year and was an all-star for the Twins in 2016.  21 doubles for Giants in 76 games.  Stole 24 bases.  Only 31.  He's still an unsigned free agent.  Could probably be had for $4 to $5 million.

BTW, it was an underrated failure of the Giants that so few non-regulars got to play (relatively speaking).

I think you hit it on the head, Lex. With Belt you just think there should be more, but there isn’t.  He seems to have a long, loopy swing that makes it hard for him to get around. He does have a good eye, which got him a lot of walks early in his career, but first basemen aren’t paid to walk a lot. He’s very good defensively. But barely average speed on the bases. Saw a stat on Buster Posey. After 1,000 games he has a higher OPS than Johnny Bench. Buster has had power outages the second halves of both ‘16 and ‘17. Which suggests to me he’s been dinged both years. I KNOW he was in ‘16. He was hitting with almost no lower body.

He would hit .325 with 20 to 25 HR’s if he played first. But he’s too valuable behind the plate defensively. Plus it’s where he wants to be.

Buster Olney recently did his top 10 positionally. Buster was 1 at Catcher. Crawford 6th. Bum  no 6 starter (Interestingly Kershaw was 4th. Injured last two years).  Longoria 10th.

Outfield was ranked just behind the Toledo Mud Hens.

McCutchen really only plays CF.  Five years ago, he was a Gold Glove outfielder.  Now, maybe slightly better than average.  He does have speed.  Last year, Span had no double plays and two assists.  McCutchen had two double plays and nine assists.  In 10 years, he's played zero games in left and just 13 games in right...all last year.  And didn't do it well.

To me, McCutchen would be an ideal #3 hitter.  .363 OBP, .849 OPS, 28 HRs, 30 doubles.  Put him in front of Posey at #4, put Panik at #2.  No idea for leadoff.  Tomlinson?  Slater (who I think will start in LF)?  Hernandez?

And we got him for two players that we don't need and are unlikely to make an impact.
