At one point last summer, Tyler Gaffney thought about coming back to baseball. His job was wearing on him, and he'd been looking for a reason to finally get off that career path. Two days later, Gaffney said, he got another offer.

It was from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"I was like, I've got to do this," Gaffney said. "This is probably my last shot."

About a week after signing, Gaffney was placed on injured reserve and waived. That was the final sign he needed. He was ready to be a baseball player again.

"I knew that football was not going to be the deal anymore," he said. "I made my strides back here."

Cool story.  He's had a pretty good first few games, two hits in seven ABs, with a triple.  Ex-football player that he is, he's been hit with a pitch twice in nine plate appearances.  Gaffney has a Ron Hunt-like ability to get hit with a pitch, he was hit 20 times in 38 games in 151 plate appearances.  For a full major league season, that would be 81 HBP.  Hunt holds the 20th and 21st century record with 50 HBP in a season.

So his line is .286/.444/.571/1.016, scoring twice in two games.  Great for TG and I hope he continues to rise through baseball's minors and makes it to the major leagues.
