I heard about her record breaking 1500 time (by something like five second over her old record), which I think means she now has the fastest eight times in history, but I had no idea the swimming world thought she might be in a slump because *gasp* she hadn’t broken a record in two years. I mean I want to have slumps like that.

Anyways, I guess “she’s back” is the message.

After the world record, Ledecky spoke about “recalibrating” her goals for the summer. She had reasoned that anything under 15:30 would be a good objective for U.S. Nationals and the Pan Pacific Championships after she won the 2017 World title in 15:31.82. But beating that mark by more than ten seconds two months before championship season changes things.

I hate it when this happens, and you have to recalibrate expectations because you are swimming too damned fast (in a non-championship meet, with no taper and not shaving, Ledecky swam 15:20).

Yes, Katie announced she was going pro shortly after the national championship.  She will be staying at Stanford and training with the team, but as a professional.

That picture of Ledecky with the Stanford coach (in linked article) is...ummm, scary.  She could take my lunch money without me putting up a fight, which, if I were stupid enough to try it...would hardly twitch the doubt-of-outcome needle.

Smart move all things considered, but I was looking forward to Stanford and her bludgeoning P12 foes for at least another season.
