Oklahoma 42, UCLA 7 in the fourth quarter.
Another tough day for the Chipster
UCLA blasted by Oklahoma 49-21 to fall to 0-2 on the season. According to ESPN FPI, UCLA will be underdogs at home next week against Fresno State. Only favored in one game this year (at home to Arizona, and only by a very small amount). We could see an 0-12 season in the Pac-12 this year (three possible candidates of Oregon State, Arizona or UCLA).

Meanwhile, Ball State played N.D. close...on the scoreboard. 24-16. The box score is kind of bizarre -- Ball State won the turnover battle, 3-2, but that doesn't seem inordinate. They somehow managed to rattle off 97 plays...but at 3.6 yards per play they were hardly terribly threatening. Weird.

A team with the talent that UCLA has and coached by Chip Kelly is not going to go 0-12. Not even close.

UCLA showed pretty well, all things considered. I think they have a shot at 7-5, though 6-6 is more likely.
UCLA's remaining schedule (with nine point loss at home to Cincinnati of AAC and 28 point rout at hands of OU previously):
Home Fresno State
At Colorado (Win in Lincoln today)
Home Washington
At Cal (about to win at BYU, who felled UA last week on road)
Home Arizona
Home Utah (likely favorites in Pac-12 South now)
At Oregon
At ASU
Home USC
Home Stanford
I see two obvious winnable games on that list (Fresno State, Arizona). Washington, Stanford, Oregon are all likely losses. Cal and ASU are road games, so I would expect these home teams to hold serve. Would not expect UCLA to win at Colorado or home Utah. Maybe if SC is mediocre enough, UCLA can win that game.
I just cannot realistically see this team going better than 3-9 or 4-8. They missed a bowl last year with Josh Rosen at QB. I know Chip's history at Oregon, but the personnel is young and just not there yet. And they already lost to a terrible Group of 5 team at home last week. But even Fresno State won 10 games and played for the MW title last year (over our nemesis from last year SDSU) under a familiar face Jeff Tedford.

Yeah, but how about ASU. They just beat Michigan State! And to think we all thought UCLA's hire of Chip Kelly was brilliant while we made fun of ASU's hire of Herm Edwards.

I didn't watch the ASU game, but from the sound of it Herm made a lot of tactically sound decisions that college coaches don't always know to make. Seems reasonable for a former NFL HC (although, you know, not guaranteed). It wouldn't surprise me if by coming in with Graham's players (he always recruited decently, IIRC) he'll do okay, but that he won't be able to do the stuff required to keep up a college program. We'll see, you can't really judge a hire after 2 games.

It's a good thing for Willie Taggart you can't. Florida State has looked pretty bad in their first two games, losing 24-3 to Virginia Tech in the first and barely squeaking by Samford in the second.
