You can pre order on Amazon. Comes out in October. Bob is a friend is mine. A former Sac Bee sportswriter. He is incredibly knowledgeable on track, a terrific writer and passionate about civil rights.

The title derives from the fact that the track was literally in the forest up in the Sierras. In fact, as I understand it, you could not see portions of the track in the stands.

I doubt I have to tell anyone here about either the social significance or the incredible athletes that were on that team. Check it out.

I may buy. I was at the Trials for two days. A track thru the trees. Definitely would lose sight of the runners. Olympics were in Mexico City so altitude training very important

Man, this brings back some memories.  My wife and I were living at  the south shore at Lake Tahoe at
that time.  It was a big thing for the area.  I remember seeing the construction as it was being put together.
