If I counted correctly, Madu finished 31st (combined score) in a very strong group of 150 at The Opening Nike combine. He ranked 4th among all the Safeties. The additional good news there is the top Safety who beat him out was Stanford commit Alex Carter. Madhu ran a 4.53 40 and a very reassuring 4.11 shuttle, which indicates he's not just a straight line speed guy.
His 40 time was third fastest of the Safeties and shuttle was third fastest of the Safeties.
These times prove the results from the Stanford Nike combine weren't a fluke. The Stanford coaches, however, watched a lot of video and Madhu's aggression and reactions on defense were the intangibles that made them offer. He's switched schools to a big, prominent Florida HS program for his senior season. The Stanford offer was considered a stretch at the time. Not a lot of combine results or hype to bolster the offer. This combine really helped solidify the coaches' confidence. Maybe his recruitment will blow up now, but it seems he's solid for Stanford.

At his current size, 196 lbs, Madhu isn't big enough to play OLB in Stanford's 3-4 defense. In the 3-4 the OLBs often have to take on OLs moving at speed.  OLB Chase Thomas last season played at around 240 lbs., the other, Tom Keiser at over 250. We'll have to see. Adding 40-50 lbs. to Madhu's frame isn't impossible, but it's a pretty daunting development curve. I think he plays as a big safety rather than a small LB.

If he really is 6'1", then it shouldn't be much of a problem bumping him up to arounf 240 by his third year into the program. With that being said, see him at SS at stanford.

If he really is 6'1", then it shouldn't be much of a problem bumping him up to arounf 240 by his third year into the program. With that being said, see him at SS at stanford.

This scout meant Madhu could bulk up and be a 4-3 OLB, not 3-4 OLB. Big difference. But yes he'll probably be a SS.

Noted elsewhere: Madhu had a good showing at the Opening combine. So far, no other offers. Not even Duke offered after showing interest. Part of that might be that he already committed to Stanford and most of the schools currently competing or potentially competing didn't think they could dislodge him.  If he were a four star player on Scout (5 on Rivals) schools would not be backing off.  He's now got 3-stars on Rivals, but maybe a commit to us --with our new found respect--actually makes him look better to the recruiting service bods. Seems fair. If Alabama or Texas offered, his stock would really rocket. So, maybe we have a question mark due on campus next fall but get to pocket a compliment now.
