Last week was a nice game from Sharma and illustrates why I'm frustrated with him and have given up on him. Last week showed that has the talent to be a force but rarely can he stay on the floor for more than 15 mins a game because he's a foul magnet.

If UCLA was at the level of Villanova or Duke, I would be thrilled with the performance.   However, knowing that UCLA has a million issues right now, this feels like a bad effort.

FWIW - Walton needs to go.   The whole broadcast he goes on and on about all kinds of things that have nothing to do with the game, the programs, or college basketball.   Sure, if you watch him once the stories might seem charming, but over multiple exposures it becomes very annoying.

I heard Walton commentate quite some time ago and IIRC he loves to pontificate, and not always about basketball. I could see where it would get annoying.

This may be the game where my faith/patience in Haase begins to turn. Were there halftime adjustments? I didn't see any. Did we have any discernable strategy to handle them in the paint or keep them out of it? Not that I could tell. We made Ucla look like a top flight team by letting them walk all over us basically at will.

I agree ~60% with you, but there is still a part of me that thinks that maybe we're just asking too much of a team playing on the road, missing its star point guard, playing freshmen for a total of 87 minutes (44% of all of our minutes), and with Ryan in his first game back after injury.

On the plus side, I love Okpala more every game.  What a great all-around player he's become.

Yes. But I'm not ready to give up on Haase yet, have to give him 2-3 years coaching his own recruits (he's had one so far). Remember Montgomery's start.

That being said, I'm still hoping that we're rushing to judgment on Haase and he turns it around.

d4cohn, I don't think Johnson deserves much credit at all. His first year, he used Monty's personnel to get to the first round, then we lost. Then the following year we receded further and floundered in the NIT - our first failure to make the Tournament in 15 years. And I refuse to give Johnson credit for the Lopii, who were recruited and committed under Montgomery. The two years they were on campus, we made the tournament twice, losing in the first round their frosh year before reaching the Sweet Sixteen their sophomore year (where we were blown to bits by Texas). If you can't at least get a team with two top-15 lottery picks to at least the Sweet Sixteen, then you shouldn't be coaching at all. So basically, Johnson should get credit for bringing us Landry Fields - who all things considered should have been developed further while he was at Stanford than he did, given the underlying talent - and that's it. 

Sorry, but in my hierarchy of recent coaches, it's Monty > > > > > > Dawkins > > Johnson. Dawkins at least had the ability to recruit. Johnson was neither a good coach nor a good recruiter, and when he bounced, he left us with an exceptionally bare cupboard that took Dawkins 2-3 seasons to refill. Unfortunately, by the time Dawkins was finally axed, he did too, which is why we're all having to wait 3-4 seasons to see what Haase is capable of. 

And BC: Yes, yes, yes. That Shaw has largely been able to maintain Harbaugh's turnaround is itself an extraordinary accomplishment. I think folks around here have real short memories about how quickly programs can go south after a coaching change. Shaw consolidated our gains and made them sustainable in a way that I think, quite frankly, Harbaugh would never have been able to do, and he's done it now for 8 seasons. He deserves far more praise than he receives around these parts.
