I always assumed (like a lot of kids) Herbig wanted to start drawing those NFL paychecks sooner rather than later.
As far as the rest are concerned, I am not that familiar with all their situations, but I could certainly see a kid who had been in the program for four years, had his degree, and didn't have specific NFL ambitions wanting to get on with his life, rather than going through the grind of another year and risking possible injury.

Yeah, it's been alluded to here, but it seemed Herbig was as much the problem as he was the victim.  WRT offensive line, the biggest indictment in my mind is Pac-12 all-conference HM member Casey Tucker.

Tucker was likely told he would have to compete for a starting job (or not have one) as a 5th year senior with Foster Sarell having played all 14 games the year before, having 3 years of eligibility left, and already being close to parity with Tucker with greater upside.
