Most of Stanford's sports teams have wrapped up their non-conference games or matches and begin league play this week or next. All except field hockey (and football) should be in the hunt for a national championship.

Women's volleyball - ranked #1 as discussed in another thread
Women's soccer - ranked #2 by the coaches but #12 in the preliminary RPI rankings. Big match Saturday at #3 USC. I plan to be there.
Men's soccer - undefeated and ranked #1 by the coaches. No RPI published yet for this year.
Men's water polo - ranked #3 behind UCLA at #2 and new power UCSB at #1. The Gauchos have already defeated Stanford, USC and Cal this season.
XC - men are ranked 6th and women 5th

The track and XC rankings by the ncaa have never ever made sense to me.

Has anyone heard anything further about the "on-going review" (as of 10 months ago) regarding UCSB water polo?

Investigation or not, they're clearly a power this year.  I wish I'd made it to the UCSB-Stanford game.


I looked at the roster.  While only 3 players are listed from other countries, 9 players (mostly freshman) are not listed with their hometown.  Of those 9, up to 5 have names that would be uncommon to quite uncommon in the US.

I have nothing but respect and admiration for these athletes. What I don't have is the slightest interest. I just don't care. My Stanford sports enthusiasm begins with football and ends with hoops. In other words, my sporting life is pretty much in dry-dock at this moment. If wasn't for the Oakland A's, my sports interest would be exclusively focused the PGA Tour and Sac-Joaquin high-school football.

Thanks for sharing that. Think he also co-founded Kap-7, probably the most dominant water polo company around today. Great tutorials online as well.

My 12 year old daughter picked up the sport 9 months ago, cause she wanted a sport that would toughen her up. She got what she wanted, she's playing against girls that are 7 inches taller and 70 pounds heavier. Fortunately, she's not dead yet.

However, the original article quoted a UCSB spokesman of "an on-going review by the University and the NCAA" and "the cooperative review process."   I have now posted a reply asking whether the NCAA review is ongoing or is done, or never existed. Seems like a glaring oversight by the author not to mention the NCAA's part in this....
