Wvb vs USC

Maybe it is a Pollyanna folly, but I think of how much better the team is getting with Plummer not in the line-up. The team can't just depend on KP taking all the out-of-system balls and turning them into winners. They need to play with each other to win points, games, and matches. And, when crunch time comes, the opponents are going to be left guessing whether KP will get the set, or Kipp, or Fitzmorris, or ...
I have no knowledge of her injury other than where she was wearing the tape. I have noticed her bending fully at the hips without hesitation to huddle up with the other players so I don't think this is some sort of spinal or back issue (but I'm no doctor). I'd guess it is some aggravation in the hip area related to the heavy hits she delivers. That would be consistent with giving her a lot of rest from that motion and impact. (It could just as well be a problem related to all the jumping & landing.)
She & the team will have some rust when (if?) she comes back. I assume they want to maximize her rest, and let her come back slowly late in the season, before the tournament. There are 10 games left in the season. I'd guess that she'd play a few minutes maybe at game 8 (Colorado), and maybe a set total in game 9 (Washington), and then continue playing more, slowly, until she's needed in the tournament (last 3 matches or so).
We will likely never know, but the decision to sit Plummer (if it was Hambly's & KP's decision, not the doctors) may be the best coaching decision of the year. I did feel the team was using Plummer as a crutch, and she was getting overused. I don't think this team's goal is to win as many matches as possible; it is to win their last match. Hopefully the team is good enough that the difference between getting a #1 or #2 or even #3 seed isn't going to matter.
I do wish we had someone hitting more kills from the back line. The fact that the team apparently hasn't been grooming someone for that makes me think Plummer is 100% expected to play all 6 rotations in the tournament.

It would probably help for Plummer to show she's "back" before the NCAA seedings are formulated, then the committee could more easily justify moving our seed up from what our record on its own would justify.
