Oregon State leads 36-34 at halftime as we ultimately sliced 4 points off the Beavers' lead through a roller coaster 2nd quarter that saw them increase the lead again to 10 after we cut it to 2, but then we went on a 9-0 run to briefly take the lead on a couple occasions before Slocum returned and gave them the advantage back before the half.
Speaking of Slocum, I am sure Tara will be focusing some of her halftime adjustments on her. Much like Ionescu, Slocum can take over a game and she has with 21 points on 9/13 shooting so far. After giving up 37 to Sabrina on Thursday, the team will be eager not to let another guard put up 30+ again against them.
Jones and Prechtel cooled off in the second half, but Lexie has picked up the pace and now is the first player in double digits for us. Kiana's defense and strip of the ball that led to her 3-pointer was also pivotal in igniting our run that got us back in the game.
Jerome fell akwardly trying to defend a Slocum drive and Lacie has two fouls, so we might be a little short-handed. We haven't seen Belibi at all so far as Tara is probably surmising that she would not be as effective as a defender against the Oregon State players.
In the first half, we showed a lot of mental toughness, hanging in there and fighting back despite the Beavers' numerous runs. We have to maintain that type of fortitude in the second half as the Beavers with their myriad of weapons will continue to challenge. We not only have to keep up our defensive intensity, but we have to hit timely shots as well. We can't completely stop the array of Beavers sharpshooters and now inside players of Jones and Brown, so we'll have to score consistently too if we want a chance to win this game.
