Jordan Watkins to Stanford, baby!

Kind of interesting that between this current recruiting class and last one, the majority of highly-rated recruits are defensive players. Moreover, they cover basically every role in defense you could want. Very nice.
(Of course, some of this effect is because our highly-rated offensive recruits are still uncommitted--but hopefully we land a brobdingnagian offensive line class.)

Watkins rated a 4 of 5 stars by Rivals. 18 ranked at his position in the nation, 193 ranked player overall.
In the SEC: he was offered by Alabama, Auburn, Florida, UGA, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas, South Carolina, Vandy, Ole Miss and Miss. St. (Apparently Kentucky musta thought he was not up to their standards).
In the Big Ten he was offered by: Ohio St., Nebraska, Purdue and Illinois
In the ACC he was offered by:Â Va. Tech, Florida St., Virginia, N. Carolina, NC State, Miami, Ga. Tech, Duke
In the Big East he was offered by:Â West Virginia, Syracuse and UConn.
Oregon offered in the Pac-10, Oklahoma in the Pac-16 8) U. South Florida in CUSA, Notre Dame in the toilet bowlÂ
Our LB sweepstakes prize James Vaughters had a similar offer list. It would be fun to compare them but don't have the time right now.

That's because Stanford is nasty!

Here's the story from the Atlanta Journal and Constitution:
http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2011/09/...-over-uga/
Very active thread of comments. Major themes are:
He chose best combination of academics and football;
How could he turn his back on his home state (and other sour grapes);
Turmoil in UGA program a significant factor in the decision.
Lots of classy comments from UGA fans/alums who recognize the value of the options which this student athlete enjoys.
Geaux Cardinal!

Quote:At Woodward, Watkins plays three instruments the piano, violin and bass and has been a member of the school orchestra since the third grade.
I play a full-size violin. He must play a full-and-three-quarters-size violin.
