Depending on how long you've been off the Bootleg, you might know that my complaint with Shaw is not turtling, per se; but rather, a terrible offensive scheme combined with utter lack of game awareness in too many instances to be called the inevitable, once-in-a-blue-moon, screw up.  HCs must give their teams the best chance to win, and what that means varies game by game (of course).  I still think the WORST of Shaw's extensive list of really bad in-game decisions came at Utah many years ago.  In that EOG situation, it was 100% plain to anyone watching the game that Stanford should have pounded the ball into the end zone for the winning score from the 2 yard line (think they even gained 6 yards on their last running play).  instead, it was INC, INC, game over (and that one may have cost Stanford a CFB playoff).

Garoppolo has one of the  great offensive minds in football as his HC.  Shanahan is great at finding positive matchups. 

I’m waiting for him to actually make a play when things break down.  He has awful feet.  Poor pocket presence (on one played he twirled around in the pocket doing circles. They should have played the Three Stooges music in the background.  On the last drive- he had an easy TD pass to Bourne.  Throws a floater and badly underthrows him. Bourne had plenty of room in the end zone.  That pass can’t be underthrown. If you miss, you miss long - no one else but the receiver should have a chance.

His wideout corps was weak yesterday- Pettis is a complete bust.  But he had plenty of weapons with his backs and TE’s.  Particularly the way Shanahan schemes. 

When he can sit back and pick out an open receiver he’s fine.  But he doesn’t create. At all.  And in today’s NFL, unless you are Drew Brees, you need to be able to create. Worse, he shows no mobility.   Even a guy like Brees – who can’t run a lick - is good at sliding within the pocket, buying time, and finding an area in which he can get rid of the ball. By the end of this year, there willl be talk about change at QB.  I don’t know when the next contractual out is.  But he isn’t worth what he’s being paid.  

I truly thought he was the difference yesterday. They’re being a brobdingnagian difference in quarterback play. Murray was inconsistent, but with his running he is dynamic. And Bob K I disagree with you regarding the 49er defense. I thought they played very well For about 2 1/2 quarters. And then just completely ran out of gas. I don’t know what the time of possession was but I have to believe it favor to Arizona tremendously. And when you have to chase around that guy all day you’re gonna be tired at the end of the day. Particularly with the air quality the way it was and on the first game of the season

As to the “late hit” - those should be reviewable.  The defender was already in the act of to making the tackle when Murray was upright.   What he supposed to do stop himself. First I think it’s physically almost impossible. Second the only way he might be able to do so is to risk ripping out both his knees. Course they don’t care about that they just want to protect the quarterbacks because that’s where the money is for the league.

The only way for him to have avoided that was to make the assumption that Murray was going to hit the ground. Which of course you can’t do because you have guys running all over the place. Frankly the sliding rule down field in my opinion is freaking BS. Once they get past the line of scrimmage they Should be treated like running back’s. Obviously when they slide you can’t go in headfirst that’s a penalty. But I don’t have a problem with somebody landing on him. Because these guys make brobdingnagian plays running and it’s damn near impossible for a defender to actually know if the guy is going to slide or not. Most the time they do that but sometimes they don’t and then it’s a brobdingnagian play.  If it’s behind a line of scrimmage and just hits the deck that’s different. Murray did that a lot of times yesterday.

They have to give something to the defense in this game. Right now it’s ridiculous it’s like arena football. And frankly to me it really is nowhere near as enjoyable to watch

Garoppolo is a different quarterback since he's returned from the ACL injury.  I suspect he's still really feeling it in his legs.  He was never a truly mobile quarterback, but today he's a statue, with more than a little Jim Everett in him.  No pocket presence, hears feet, can't really throw deep or to the sidelines.  Unbelievably overrated since he came back from the injury.  Pre-injury, I thought he was less experienced but a more capable QB.  Now, his ceiling is incredibly low.  And in games when the Niners are forced to move away from the run, it really shows.

Late hit call was ridiculous.  Murray forced it with his whining-like-a-teenage-girl, Euro-soccer-complainer antics.

As to the “late hit” - those should be reviewable.  The defender was already in the act of to making the tackle when Murray was upright.   What he supposed to do stop himself. First I think it’s physically almost impossible. Second the only way he might be able to do so is to risk ripping out both his knees. Course they don’t care about that they just want to protect the quarterbacks because that’s where the money is for the league.

The only way for him to have avoided that was to make the assumption that Murray was going to hit the ground. Which of course you can’t do because you have guys running all over the place. Frankly the sliding rule down field in my opinion is freaking BS. Once they get past the line of scrimmage they Should be treated like running back’s.
