One of our higher-rated  and/or  more interested in Stanford  OL  recruits might have gone (poof!).  And here I thought somebody had Montag all well chilled on quality relaxation drugs.  Another working hypothesis is we are loading up on OL and DL.  Admissible and interested DL are, supposedly,  our rarest commodity.  (Funny,  it used to be that admissible, interested cornerbacks were our rarest commodity).    But with DeCastro and Martin almost a lock to be out'a here at the end of this season,  maybe the pressure is on to stock up on OL, too.  Only Barry Sanders of interest at RB.  Need a TE (or 2?)  and  a couple of WRs (  5 already committed if not admitted).  Holding a spot for QB Dallas Lloyd to return from his mission if he is still committed.  Otherwise I think we hold on QB. [Now, watch.  One will commit within a week.]

As a mostly random aside,  there is speculation that if Barry Sanders commits (and maybe even if he doesn't)  one of our RBs-- Remound Wright or Kelsey Young will transfer.  Absolutely no facts in evidence publicly that this is true,  just people thinking out loud.

I'd love to see a RB convert to safety--Delano Howell is graduating.  It is kind of interesting that we currently have 10 listed RBs on the roster.  Three are walk-ons, two (I think) will leave after this season, but still...ten RBs.

Our top four running backs right now look to be: Taylor, Gaffney, Stewart, Wilkerson.

Stewart's definitely gone this year. A lot of speculation that Gaffney will get drafted by the MLB and go that route. Taylor will be a senior next year. While a lot of people have praised Wilkerson's potential, he hasn't exactly put it all together (and is, at any rate, a junior next year). Seale is unproven. It seems to me there's plenty of opportunity for a surge as the change-of-pace back next year and the heir apparent spot for 2012. Why would you, a redshirt freshman, transfer? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Wright was almost over the top on Stanford before he came.  The whole will-he-trip-to-Iowa drama late in the recruiting season seems silly now.  OTOH,  he IS on the bottom rung of the totem pole along with Young.

I agree that in the long run, from a coach's or fan perspective,  we are not overstocked at RB.  But what controls the situation is how the RB feels.  My guess is there is not a school in the Pac-12 that wouldn't want Young on their roster.  Maybe USC. or Oregon would be the least likely.  Of course,  I hope it's a completely moot point.

The way things are going, these frosh are looking at (at least) a BCS bowl ring...if not better.  This program is built for success, and they should want to be a part of it (as well as get that best-in-the-world degree).

I realize the thread has moved in the direction of discussing the RBs, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about Nick Davidson, a 4* OT from the midwest.  Apparently has Stanford in his top 5, and one report had him planning to attend the game against Colorado (another team in his final list).  None of the recruiting services mentioned his visit.

Thanks for sharing the good news.  With all of his family connections to OSU, maybe he still doesn't end up here.  But maybe he is just waiting to see if Ohio State makes a big splash in hiring a full time coach.
