i would guess that lacie vs fran starting would depend on matchups ie the other team's size. do we want to start 2 bigs or 1?

Last year Cal Poly started two 6'3" players. The one that remains on the team, Sierra Campisano, used to be at Oregon and may have been a Stanford recruit at one time. She is their best player. I would guess that one of the three 6'3/6'4 players on the roster would be the other starter at forward as their guards are smaller and thus they would need to give Campisano some help with rebounding. I think if Belibi is on the floor, she would be able to run circles around whatever 6'3/6'4 player they put on the floor.

On Saturday, six of our freshmen in the dorms were instructed to quarantine when a student on their floor in the dormitory tested positive for coronavirus. The opportunity to play in their first collegiate competition will be delayed. Regardless of whether the players contracted the virus, a 14-day quarantine is mandated.

I'm still waiting for the Pac to revise that 14-day quarantine rule, which strikes me as very excessive (particularly for those who have not tested positive and were merely "exposed").

They won't revise it until the science shows otherwise. The problem is that the incubation period for COVID is up to 14 days. The only way to be entirely sure that you aren't putting anyone else at risk given how little we still know about COVID is to facilitate the entire quarantine regardless of test results.

Considering the MBB opener was cancelled, I hope the WBB staff are actively looking for potential alternative opponents for the first 5 games.
There are enough teams (normally, I haven't looked to be sure everyone is playing) around that there may be teams available even at the last 48 hours or maybe even less. SJSU, Santa Clara, etc. Even having two games with nearby non-conference opponents should be on the table.
True, neither team would have a chance to scout & prepare, but the chance for some opponent to play a top-10 team should be appealing, while Stanford (and the PAC-12) has an obvious reason to get Stanford 5 games as quickly as possible.
The conference might decide that nearby PAC-12 opponents could play early if both teams wind up having both week's games cancelled by opponents. (In such a case, a normal game date between the two would be freed for some other make-up game.) This makes really good sense to me. For instance, if the two Washington state schools were unable to play on the Dec 4-6 weekend, then Cal & Stanford could play, maybe twice. (Actually SJSU is free that weekend, having already played Cal.)
The PAC-12's paired schedule seems well designed to have this kind of flexibility -- The nearby opponent is free for two games if both games of a week are cancelled at any point in the season.
A question would be what would happen to the scheduled Dec 13 and Feb 28 dates? Are they cancelled and available for other games, or maybe the Dec 13th game could be played as a non-conference third game (if Cal-Stanford played two games on Dec. 4-6); or vice versa, the early games could be considered as provisional conference games if the later games can't be played or the dates are needed for make-up games.
If I were the PAC-12, I'd be discussing this with the coaches to get this figured out as a planned last-minute option. Avoiding missed games seems important for getting teams into the NCAA tourney, and for them to do better against teams that may have less experience.

Thus far, I have not heard of much spread on the field/court. (actually, I haven't heard of any, but I definitely haven't looked everywhere) Hopefully that's a sign that playing on a court/field where the airflow should be pretty continuous minimizes the chance of you catching it from tightly covering/defending/marking someone.

I just read an article about Los Angeles County. The Director of Public Health for the County, Barbara Ferrer, wants to cancel all sporting events for three weeks starting next week. Apparently she wants to cancel them even if they don't permit any fans. The Board of Supervisors would have to approve it and it wasn't made clear what their position is other than they take their cues from Ferrer for Covid related policy.
If this policy were to pass I suppose UCLA and USC would have to scramble for venues outside LA County. I have my doubts the WBB season gets very far along before it is postponed.
