USA WWP with a number of Stanford current & former players is playing Hungary live on ESPNU as I type this.
USA WWP (Stanford players/grads)
06-02-2021, 08:04 PM
USA sweeps the 4 games against Hungary, winning today 12-7. (Stanford: 7 goals) Next game (not on TV) in Spain next Wednesday, and then 7 in a tourney in Athens before the Olympics. The Olympics roster is to be announced June 23 (first Olympics game July 24).
It was good to see the sport on ESPNU. With COVID, the team hadn't played a match since early 2020 until mid-May 2021.
I thought the USA played well. Mostly crisp passing, good defense, great goal tending.
USA goals
Maddie Musselman (UCLA): 3 (4 assists)
Jamie Neushul (Stanford) :3
Melisssa Seidemann (Stanford): 2
Rachel Fattal (UCLA): 2 (1 assist)
Maggie Steffens (Stanford): 1 (3 assists)
Mackenzie Fischer (Stanford): 1
The USA played 13 players. 11 players is the roster limit for the Olympics.
Aria Fischer and Jordan Raney were other Stanford players that got time today.

Last week, the US women's water polo team went to Europe. They won a squeaker over Catalonia (Spain) 13-12.
This week is the FINA Women's Water Polo World League Super Final 2021 in Athens with the European teams, leading up to the Olympics.
The US took 14 athletes but only 13 can be designated for any game. After the end of the tournament, the 13 US athletes that will go to the Olympics will be announced. (FINA rules only allow 11 players in a game at the Olympics. )
The players' schools are (years indicate their last potential year of eligibility for Stanford)
Stanford: 6 Melissa Seideman('13), Maggie Steffens('17), Jamie Neushul ('17), Aria Fischer('22), Mackenzie Fischer('21), Jordan Raney('18)
USC: 4
UCLA: 3
Princeton: 1
(The US Senior National team has 18 athletes.
Ryann Neuschul (Stanford '23) and Gabby Stone (Stanford '17) did not make the trip.)
If the US continues winning, they will play a game every day this week. Monday, they defeated Greece 16-9. On Tuesday, they play Kazahkstan. On Wednesday, they play Spain. (The US has never lost to Greece or Kazahkstan; Spain has tied the US twice, but the US has won the last 10 matches.)
Thursday, Friday, Saturday are the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
The games are being streamed live. Oh wait, it may be that free US streaming from Europe may be blocked, and you'll have to purchase a subscription at FloSports.
Tues: USA-KAZ 8:30AM PDT (18:30 EEST)
Wed: USA-ESP 6:45AM PDT (16:45 EEST)

Sat: TBD 10:15AM PDT (20:15 EEST)
Edit: The above link for streaming doesn't work in the US. I managed to get a poor stream out of Germany so I was able to watch bits of the game against Spain. The US doubled up on Spain at the end of each quarter (4-2; 10-5; 14-7; final 18-9). Most of what I watched was the 2nd quarter and the US was amazingly efficient. Very good water polo played against a pretty decent opponent. They also beat KAZ 20-2, so the US was the winner of group B and will play in a quarterfinal Thursday at 10:15AM PDT.

The USA has advanced to the finals, which will be against Hungary, Saturday at 10:15AM PDT. (If you want to know how to watch, PM me.)
I was able to watch the semi-finals and the USA seems heads and shoulders above the other teams in the tournament. It was not just European teams; I didn't check but this may have included all the teams going to the Olympics. The USA's scores have been 16-9, 20-2, 18-9, 20-6, and 17-9 (Semifinal vs Russia; ? I may be wrong on the actual score; 13-4 at end of 3). The other semifinal was between Hungary and Canada. Hungary beat Canada by a handful in the semi, but lost to Russia by 1 during group play.
The US hosted 4 games against Hungary and 3 games against Canada in May and won all, with the closest being a 12-7 win over Hungary.

The US beat Hungary 14-8 in the Gold Medal match, for their 7th gold in a row for the FINA Women's Water Polo World League Super Final.
Maggie Steffans (4 goals) was the player of the game.
The quarter scores were 4-2, 6-3, 9-7. Hungary started playing rougher late in the 3rd, and it seemed to work for them. On transition to offense, they started leaving 2 players at the half court, hoping the defenders would stay on them and getting an ejection in the hole and them being up 4 players on 3. It almost happened once.
After outscoring the US by 1 in the third, Hungary seemed to be thinking they could win. Hungary scored the first goal of the 4th quarter, putting them within one. But then the US put on a barrage of goals. It didn't help Hungary that they zeroed in on the goal frame. They must have had 6 shots that bounced off the frame, including one by their goalie! Hungary had a chance for a fast break, so the US goalie came out to try to intercept the pass or defend the player. The goalie took a shot (from her own net). It landed about a foot short and did a weak bounce into the frame.
One of the players on this trip will be left off the team to go to the Olympics when the team is announced on Wed. June 23.
