Mens Golf starts tomorrow

Wow Ethan Ng at the #1 will be interesting to see how he responds.
This is a pretty strong lineup. I think Stanford is flying under the radar going into the season and could surprise some people

Ouch. That's not a good start from the golfers. Stanford in a tie for 13th out of 15 teams, through 11 holes.

Now DFL through 12. Ethan Ng, playing in the #1 spot, made a quad on the 12th
It's generally not good when you have almost as many double bogeys and "others" as you have birdies...

Day 1 of 3 is now in the books, and our boys rallied to the middle of the pack by just staying level on the last six holes. Tied for 9th at +11, ten strokes behind leader Oklahoma State. No team is at or under par, which isn't particularly surprising. Olympia Fields is a tough layout I look forward to playing it in the next couple of years.
T13. Thorbjornsen +1
T22. Vilips +2
T32. Brown +3
T51. Shimp +5
T75. Ng +8 (yeesh)

Stanford played a little better as a team on Day 2 and currently stands T7, only 4 shots behind 4th place Indiana but 14 shots behind 1st place UNC.
T9. Thorbjornsen +1
T23. Vilips +3
T27. Shimp +4
T43. Brown +7
T72. Ng +13 a particularly mercurial round with five birdies and three double bogeys
Final day tomorrow. Definitely able to move into the Top 5, could finish Top 3 with a strong performance. Not likely to win.

Stanford shot the low round of the day on Sunday to finish 4th against what looks like a pretty strong field.
Sophomore Michael Thorbjornsen continues to build on a successful summer of amateur tournaments with his first Top 10 finish. Ethan Ng did not handle the #1 slot well at all, finishing just two shots above DFL.

Ng must have played himself out of the top 5, he was consistently our worst scorer. Need to give someone else a chance. Can't figure how he was the teams top seed.

This could be a terrific team.
Seven of the nation's top 11 ranked teams were in the field.
Stanford finished behind #8, #5, and #1.
And ahead of #3, #4, #6 (Illinois, playing on its home course), and #11.
They did this despite a horrible performance by Ethan, who managed a quad, a quint, and five doubles.
(Karl Vilips didn't have a single hole over bogey.)
The fact Ng qualified as #1, was our #2 scorer last year, and had eight birdies (only Micheal T had more) all suggest he belongs in the top five.

The roster is deeper that in the past with veterans as well as incoming from Alex Yang. Tuleubayev was part of the match play roster on the 2019 national championship team. Menon played quite a bit last year.
Ng's a good player. Just didn't play well in this event.
